Annual CABHAIR Testimonial Dinner
The
2011 annual Cabhair Testimonial Dinner was held on Saturday, May
28th at the Academy Plaza Hotel in Dublin. The
National Irish Freedom Committee (NIFC) supports, through
Cabhair in Ireland, the dependants of Irish Republican political
activists who are harassed and prosecuted by British and Irish
authorities.
The
2011 honorees are: Walter O’Dunphy (Leinster), John Murphy
(Munster), Neil Chambers (Connacht), Joe O’Neill (Ulster) and
Maggie Trainor (USA). Maggie and Jane Enright, both NIFC members
attended this year’s dinner along with approximately 100 Irish
republicans including supporters from England, Scotland and
Wales. Maggie is a long time member of the National Irish
Freedom Committee and a life-long Irish American activist.
Chairperson Dan Hoban discussed the history of the Republican
Movement and the current state of affairs for present day Irish
political prisoners. Each provincial honoree was then introduced
by a comrade from their area. Maggie was introduced by
Republican Sinn Fein President, Des Dalton.
Lita
Ní Chathmhaoil presented each honoree with a personally
monogrammed cut crystal bowl made by Belfast Crystal on behalf
of the CABHAIR organization.
It
was a wonderful evening that concluded with several hours of
live traditional Irish music and comradery that ran into the wee
hours of the morning. The National Irish Freedom Committee would
like to again congratulate Maggie on this well deserved honor. Bullaí mná!
